Jon Cooper is riding high again after a flurry of news reports that Vice President Joe Biden has held meetings to discuss running for president. Cooper signed on at the end of June as national finance chairman for Draft Biden 2016, which has a super PAC, and he predicts a lot of Barack Obama donors will jump to Biden if he declares.
That group has collected 185,000 signatures urging Biden to run and hopes to get 250,000. Cooper, a former Suffolk County legislator, gained notice as a rare New Yorker who backed Obama over Hillary Clinton in 2008.
Cooper, who declined to be interviewed, has his work cut out for him. As of June 30, Draft Biden 2016 had raised just $85,880. Hillary for America had raised $47.5 million.-- Tom Brune
