Kelle Lalier's homer gets Massapequa past Mepham

Kelle Lalier hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Massapequa to a 3-2 win over Mepham in Nassau Conference AA-I softball Monday.

Rachel Sieber tied the score at 2 with a two-run homer in the sixth. Renee Vaiano struck out nine and allowed six hits for the Chiefs (6-4).

Bay Shore 2, Sachem East 0: Michelle DeVito tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and had a hit and two RBIs for Bay Shore (11-1) in a League I/II crossover.

Valley Stream Central 18, Elmont 2: Tiffany Longarzo went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle, including a grand slam in the sixth, and had nine RBIs for VSC (6-3) in Conference AA-III. Jenny Dignam and Jasmine Garden each had three hits and three RBIs in the win.

St. John the Baptist 5, Sacred Heart 2: Sofia Evangelista struck out 11 in a two-hitter and Kelly Whalen had a triple and an RBI for St. John the Baptist (8-2) in CHSAA.

BASEBALL

East Meadow 2, Plainview JFK 1: Billy Thomas scored Zach Fritz with a double in the bottom of the eighth to win it for East Meadow (5-7) in Nassau Conference AA-II. Matt Sumowski struck out eight, walked one and allowed five hits in a complete game.

Lynbrook 3, Manhasset 1: Chris Roepken struck out eight in a four-hitter for Lynbrook (6-6) in Conference A-IV. Eduardo Martinez's RBI single in the sixth to score pinch runner Matt Fernez gave Lynbrook a 2-0 lead.

Ward Melville 3, Brentwood 0: Ryan Shields had an RBI single and Phil Carballeira a two-run triple in the fourth for Ward Melville (10-5) in Suffolk League I. Anthony Kay struck out 14 and walked two in a two-hitter.

Sachem East 3, Bay Shore 1: Nick Liegi struck out six in six scoreless innings for Sachem East (11-4) in League II. Joe Messina had a hit and an RBI in the win.
