Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Here is what you need to know to vote:

VOTER REGISTRATION

Check your registration status online

Deadlines
Oct. 11: General applications by mail
Oct. 25: Honorably discharged military veterans and people who became naturalized citizens after Oct. 11. Also deadline for in-person registration.

In-person registration
Residents can register at the Nassau and Suffolk boards of elections or at any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, including Department of Motor Vehicle locations, and SUNY and City University of New York campuses.

Registration by mail
Mail-in voter registration applications can be obtained from any of participating state agencies or by calling your county board of elections, 1-800-FOR-VOTE, or by filling out the online voter application request form and mailing it to your county board of elections.

Applications must be postmarked no later than Oct. 11 and received by a board of elections no later than Oct. 16 to be eligible to vote in the 2013 General Election.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS

General deadlines
Oct. 29: Last day to postmark application or letter of application for ballot.
Nov. 4: Last day to apply in person at board of elections for absentee ballot. Last day to postmark completed ballot. Must be received by the board of elections no later than Nov. 12.
Nov. 5: Last day to deliver completed ballot in person to the board of elections.

Military voter deadlines
Oct. 25: Last day for a board of elections to receive applications of those not previously registered.
Nov. 4: Last day to apply in person at a board of elections for general election absentee ballot if previously registered; last day to postmark a completed ballot.
Nov. 18: Last day for completed absentee ballots to be received by the board of elections.
