Kidsday: Helping my brothers
My two brothers, Brian and Dylan, have PMD. PMD stands for Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease.
The disease is named for two German physicians, Friedrich Pelizaeus and Ludwig Merzbacher.
PMD occurs due to a genetic mutation. This disease is similar to cerebral palsy.
Having brothers with PMD is difficult because of all the work to care for them that has to get done.
My dad and I try very hard to get my brothers to do regular activities. I spend lots of my days entertaining my brothers. They play baseball in a challenger league.
When I am on vacation, we cannot do so many things because it is tough to travel with them to different
places.
Right now, there is no cure for PMD, but I hope someday reseachers will find one.

Getting that extra workout
Do you work out? We think it is important to keep healthy and strong. Even if you don't want to be an athlete, you still want to keep yourself fit. We did a survey with 323 kids in grades four, five and six, asking how many work out during the week, not including gym class and sports practice. Here is what we found out:
Work out extra: 205
Don't work out extra: 18
It is good to see how many kids work out. Some said they like to practice extra so they can be good for the teams they're on. Even though lots of kids don't work out extra, we think they should. It can be as easy as riding a bike, jogging or playing games without a team - such as basketball or baseball.
