Kidsday: Our star teacher, Ms. Greco
I interviewed my basketball coach, Danielle Greco, who was in the running as one of the top teachers in a contest on "Live! With Kelly" in May.
Ms. Greco coaches the challenger basketball team in the Bethpage School District. She also runs a special program after school to help children with their social skills. She is the principal at our district's extended summer school program. She also helps run many of our school's clubs during the school year. All of the kids here at JFK think she is amazing.
In my interview with her, she told me how excited and surprised she was to be nominated along with 11 other teachers in a nationwide contest. She also said she cried when she found out. She was so happy that all of the students were cheering for her. It was the best feeling ever.
Ms. Greco said that the TV crew that came was very kind. They followed her around all day and fell in love with our school after interviewing students and faculty. She said that being a teacher is the best job ever, and she gets to work with amazing kids every day. When she was on "Live! With Kelly," she was very nervous, but the producers of the show told her to just enjoy the moment.
When I asked Ms. Greco what she would remember from this experience, she told me she would remember all the kind words, letters, and hugs from JFK and the Bethpage community. She said she would never forget meeting Kelly Ripa, Jimmy Kimmel, Taye Diggs and Chris Colfer. She was so excited and grateful that all of her students were given laptops from HP.
I will always remember Ms. Greco and the impact she has made on my life. Even though she didn't win the contest, she will always be a top teacher to me.
