Kings Park farmers market to begin 2nd season

Boasting a bounty of locally grown vegetables, fruits and other food, the Kings Park farmers market is set to begin its second season on Sunday.

The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the municipal parking lot at Church and Main streets. It will be open each Sunday through Nov. 18.

Local growers will sell products such as vegetables, herbs, fruits, baked goods, fish and shellfish, eggs, poultry, cheeses, mushrooms, pasta, pickles, fair trade coffee, gluten-free products and handcrafted soaps. A variety of musical acts will perform weekly.

The market is supported by the Kings Park Civic Association and Long Beach-based Friends & Farmers Inc.

Civic association member Ann Marie Nedell said the market “has become the cornerstone of our town and really enhances the sense of community in our hamlet while vitalizing our downtown business area.”

Starting July 1, organizers will accept donations of fresh and canned food for the St. Joseph Church of Kings Park food pantry in conjunction with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Donations can be brought to the market manager’s tent.
