Halloween thrill seekers will have to get spooked elsewhere.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation plans to increase patrols starting Wednesday in Nissequogue River State Park and the site of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center, officials said.

"We will have staff from other parks supplementing the staff at Kings Park in order to have robust, around-the-clock patrols at the center," Brian Foley, deputy regional director of Long Island state parks, said in an interview. "Trespassing does occur over other times of the year, but what we had seen was a marked increase in trespassing in and around Halloween."

Beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday Kings Park Boulevard will be closed between Route 25A and St. Johnland Road, as will all roads leading into and out of the center. The closures will be effective until at least 4 a.m. Friday.

State parks have enhanced these patrols for about eight years, said Foley, adding they have helped reduce the number of trespassers.
