Kings Park seeks $1.1M to replace roof

Along with weighing in on the school budget May 17, voters in the Kings Park Central School District will consider whether to use $1.1 million from a capital reserve fund to replace a roof at Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School.

“We have several leaks in the roof,” said Superintendent Susan Agruso of the school on Old Dock Road.

The roof, last replaced 20 to 30 years ago, “is in bad need of repair,” she said.

If voters approve the proposition, Agruso said, the district would seek emergency state approval so that most of the work could be completed by the time school opens in September.

The project is estimated to cost less than $1 million, but Agruso said if additional problems are found after work begins, the district will have “a little bit of a cushion.”

Agruso said there was no tax impact from the proposition since the money has already been set aside.

The state would provide aid for 41 percent of the project, reimbursing the district over 15 years, Agruso said. There is about $1.6 million in the reserve fund now, she said.
