Kings Point ups building construction fees 66%
The Village of Kings Point on Monday night increased the fees it charges for new building construction by 66 percent.
In the past, the village used a formula that charged $150 per square foot of construction in its formula to calculate fees. The new dollar amount is $250 per square foot, said Stephen Limmer, who is counsel to the village.
Limmer said the new fee is more in line with construction costs and also better reflects the cost to the building department of reviewing plans and making inspections.
To calculate the fee, the village charges $200 plus $10 for each $1,000 or fraction thereof of the estimated cost. The square footage is multiplied by $250 to come up with the estimated construction cost.
Under the old formula, a 5,000-square-foot building cost $7,700. Now, the fee will be $12,700.
The vote was unanimous. Only one resident spoke about the resolution and he was in favor, Limmer said.
