Well, the good news for Penfield is they've booked a nice hotel in Manhattan and, with some time off, will spend the next couple days sightseeing. The Farmingdale players even offered them suggestions for restaurants and tourist attractions.

Alas, the Dalers weren't quite as hospitable when it came to that lacrosse stuff.

Kim Kolodny scored eight goals and Colleen Reynolds had three goals and three assists as Farmingdale walloped Penfield, 17-4, Monday.

"I would imagine it's exciting for some of them, being in the city and Long Island for the first time," Dalers defender Kaitlin Gaghan said of Penfield, visiting from the Rochester region. "I told them to check out some beaches and enjoy themselves."

Penfield made the 370-mile drive south Monday morning and dealt with what likely was the least pleasant part of their trip: a Dalers team averaging 19.2 goals in its last four games.

Reynolds' score put Farmingdale up 8-0 before Megan Malloy got Penfield on the board with 8:43 left in the first half. Penfield pulled within 12-3 early in the second half, then Kolodny answered with three goals in three minutes.

Amanda Turturro added three goals and two assists, and Nadine Hadnagy had two goals and four assists for Farmingdale (6-0). Turturro said the offense "took advantage in transition" and their execution was near flawless. "Farmingdale is amazing inside 8 meters and we just couldn't stop them," Penfield coach Wayne Smith said. Penfield was a Section V finalist last year, losing by one to eventual state Class A runner-up Pittsford.

Farmingdale goalie Olivia Kirk, a sophomore, made 10 saves in her first start. "Amazing, unbelievable," is how Kolodny described the debut.

Farmingdale's defense stifled Penfield's senior-laden attack line. "Olivia played great and that allowed us to push out and do more things," Gaghan said. "We were able to double on the crease rolls and we took control."

Penfield does have tickets to see "Mamma Mia!" Tuesday. But Monday it was Farmingdale putting on a show -- an Off-Broadway production with a five-star performance.
