Konta plays longest women's match in history
Before this year's U.S. Open, Johanna Konta had played in just eight Grand Slams. She had reached the second round only once, at the 2012 Open.
Konta has never won a WTA Tour title, but after Thursday's second-round win over No. 9 seed Garbine Muguruza, she has made her mark in the U.S. Open record book.
At 3 hours, 22 minutes, she played the longest women's match in Open history. Konta won, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 6-2.
"I noticed after the first set -- it was incredibly long, but then after I had a couple glances on the clock -- I'm like, 'Oh, OK, we have been here a while,'" Konta said. "It's difficult with sweating buckets."
