J.A. Happ pitched six scoreless innings, extending a streak of strong starts for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins last night.

Pittsburgh starters have thrown 19 1-3 consecutive scoreless innings, and Happ (2-1) has allowed one earned run in his past 171/3 innings.

The Pirates won for the sixth time in seven games to climb a season-high 27 games above .500. They have won five consecutive road games since Aug. 13, and they're 4-0 this year against Miami.

Gregory Polanco had a season-high four hits and drove in a run. Andrew McCutchen hit a two-out, two-run double in the third, and Neil Walker contributed a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Royals 8, Orioles 3: Omar Infante led a seven-run charge in the sixth inning to support a strong start by Kris Medlen for host Kansas City. Despite working on a pitch count, Medlen (2-0) lasted six innings in his first start since Sept. 27, 2013, with Atlanta.

Cubs 2, Indians 1: Kris Bryant homered with two outs in the ninth inning to lift surging Chicago. The Cubs have won five straight and 21 of their last 26.

Braves 5, Rockies 3: Jonny Gomes hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs as host Atlanta ended its seven-game losing streak. Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez exited in the fifth with soreness in his right knee.

Reds 12, Tigers 5: Brandon Phillips drove in four runs with a home run and a triple during host Cincinnati's 10-run sixth inning as the Reds came back from a five-run deficit to snap a nine-game losing streak.
