The Long Island Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will host its annual Kwanzaa celebration with Hempstead Village community leaders tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Hempstead Public Library, 115 Nichols Ct.

This year’s free event is titled “Empowering Our Community Through Unity.”

The seven principles of Kwanzaa will be presented by community leaders across Hempstead, including: Phil Andrews, president of 100 Black Men of Long Island; Theresa Sanders, president of the Urban League of Long Island; Reginal Lucas, president of the Hempstead Coordinating Council of Civic Associations; Betty Cross, president of the Hempstead school district’s board of education; Al Forde, president of the Hempstead Chamber of Commerce; the Rev. Scott Williams of Christ’s First Presbyterian Church; and Clarice Curry, representative from the Bethany House.

The evening will include performances by The Gloria Eve School of Dance of Hempstead, Voices of Virtue, Hempstead Select Chorale, and April Armstrong, a singer, actress and storyteller.

Donations of canned and boxed goods will be accepted for distribution to the Bethany House and Madonna Heights women and children’s shelters.
