The setting of the sun doesn’t mean the end of the fun at Long Island beaches. At Jones Beach and Long Beach, the party keeps going well after dusk with music, sports and highflying entertainment for the entire family.

JONES BEACH

Live entertainment

Be entertained any day of the week at the Jones Beach bandshell as part of the long-running series of free concerts, movies, dancing and other events.

The lineup includes Christian music (Monday), children’s events (Tuesday), line dancing and fitness sessions (Wednesday), magic shows and movie screenings (Thursday) and tribute bands (Friday and Saturday).

“I’ve been coming to listen for the past 20 or 25 years,” said Willy Randolph of Levittown on a recent Friday night, when Reckoning, a Grateful Dead tribute band, performed. “I like the atmosphere — the free, outdoor feeling.”

Maria Morales, 20, of Glen Cove says she’s become a regular at the outdoor party. There is no formal instruction, she says, but attendees are happy to share tips on dance steps.

“It’s always a good time, and it attracts a lot of people,” Morales said.

I.FLY Trapeze

Learn to let go at this recreational flying trapeze and circus arts school that offers beginner, intermediate and prerequisite lessons for thrill seekers as young as 4.

The 90-minute beginner course teaches timing and technique, such as how to get your legs on the trapeze bar. Intermediate flyers are taught poses and more advanced techniques with an emphasis on ideal form, double foot locks, crossbacks and hip keys.

There’s also a two-hour yoga and flying trapeze class that begins with 30 minutes of meditation.

Natalia Levinskaya took her first trapeze course at I.FLY in May with her children — Emily, 5, and Jason, 3. “I knew I’d like it, I just didn’t realize how much,” said Levinskaya of Woodbury. “It’s like riding a bike — seems impossible at first, but once you try it, you want to go back again and again. Everyone should try it at least once.”
