Kevin Law holds his first board meeting Wednesday as the new president of the Long Island Association, and much of the inaugural session will be about turning the Island green.

Pearl Kamer, the LIA's chief economist, will present a report about the job potential for the region in a green economy. Law said he believes a green industry could mean thousands of new jobs for the Island. Kamer's report is to be released soon after the LIA board meeting.

"My major role here is going to be about job creation," Law said Tuesday. "There are a couple of areas where Long Island is poised to do well." One of them is energy, and the other, he said, is health care.

Law noted the region could take better advantage of its educational and research organizations, including Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University.

"We're going to hear [Kamer's] presentation, and we'll come up with an action plan," Law said. He added he wants to hear from LIA directors as he puts together a strategic plan for job creation in 2011.

Law was chief executive of the Long Island Power Authority for the past three years before stepping down to take over leadership of the LIA, based in Melville. He is the LIA's first new president in 16 years, replacing Matt Crosson, who resigned earlier this year to become president of the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
