Lawrence village candidates to run unopposed

The Lawrence Village mayor and two candidates seeking trustee seats will run unopposed for new terms on June 19.
Mayor Martin Oliner will run for another two-year term under the Unity Party banner. Incumbent trustee C. Simon Felder and new candidate Erwin (Irving) Langer, both from the Unity Party, also are running for two-year terms. The positions on the five-member board of trustees are not paid.
Langer is running for a trustee position vacated by incumbent Edward I. Klar, who decided not to seek re-election.
Oliner, Felder and Langer were the only candidates to submit petitions to run for their offices. The filing deadline was May 15.
Village Justice Donald J. Buchalter also is running unopposed for a four-year term. Buchalter’s post also is unpaid.
Voting will be held June 19 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Lawrence Village Hall, 196 Central Ave. There are no propositions on the ballot.
Lawrence is a 4.7-square-mile community in the southwest section of the Town of Hempstead. It has 6,483 residents and a budget of $6.46 million for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which began June 1.
