Leaking tanker closes roads in Woodmere
A leaking gas tanker in a Woodmere neighborhood prompted evacuations and closed two streets in both directions Thursday morning, Nassau County police said. (July 22, 2010) Credit: Jim Staubitser
The Nassau County Police Department has issued a traffic advisory in Woodmere because of an overturned gasoline tanker.
Peninsula Boulevard and Woodmere Boulevard were closed in both directions. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes after the truck hit a tree branch, rupturing the tank.
Some homes in the area were also evacuated, police said.
