Riverhead Councilman Jim Wooten couldn’t resist the pun.
After six months of working to get the town to open its first off-leash dog park at the town-owned Enterprise Park at Calverton property, Wooten received the opportunity to organize the opening-day ceremonies, which will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
But, instead of a ribbon cutting, he will be having a leash cutting.
“We’re also giving out doggy bags,” Wooten said. Inside each bag will be a dog biscuit and the rules for using the park, which will be open during daylight hours.
The entrance is on Middle Country Road near the new town ballfields that are under construction.
