Our politicians, obsessed with never again raising taxes, have managed to find a synergy that works for them, public safety be damned ["Second look; Guv freezes DMV plan to skip eye exam for renewals," News, Oct. 1]. Trying to save money, the governor eliminated -- then reinstated -- eye exams for the driving public. Meanwhile, Nassau and Suffolk counties are red-light-camera crazy to try and raise money.

The only way I can interpret this is that the governor was trying to say to the counties, "Don't worry, guys, I'm making sure that you will have plenty of people blowing through your red-light cameras. After all, if they can't see them, they surely won't be stopping for them!"
