I am an advocate of public school education and gladly pay taxes to educate our children. A new school year has caused me to think about our high compensation for Long Island school administrators.

I'd like to suggest that all New York State teachers and administrators be required each year to take (and pass) the same state exams specified for their students. This would verify who is fit for their jobs and also serve to determine what is fair compensation for professional educators.

Superintendents who achieve top test scores may accept their half-million-dollar pay. If not, the $250,000 suggested by our governor should be the limit.
