Letter: Patchogue infighting continues

Patchogue New Village, a proposal by Tritec Real Estate Co., calls for 17,000 square feet of office space, 45,000 square feet of retail space and 291 rental apartments at the former Sweezey's property and its adjacent sites at the village?s historic Four Corners. Credit: Handout
Your editorial about Patchogue trivializes the issues we have with Mayor Paul Pontieri ["Don't let infighting hurt Patchogue," Aug. 31].
It is true that we are against the Tritec project, which evolved from a hotel and owner-occupied condominium to 291 rental units. In essence, it ceased being a mixed-use project and sorely lacks adequate parking.
Yet this "infighting" is not about the village's Four Corners. Our objection stems from the mayor giving a $150,000 loan to a developer, contrary to state law and without board approval; selling his car to a relative who in turn sold it to the village without board approval; creating a union position in a recession and then filling that position with a relative, among other improprieties.
Pontieri's continued lack of transparency has led to a parting of ways. We will continue our calls to restore honesty and integrity to our village government.
