This is in regard to the letter "Many abuse parking for the handicapped" [Aug. 26]. The writer seems to feel that parking for the handicapped should only be for people who can't walk.

I use a handicap parking permit, and I will be the first to tell you that I don't look handicapped, but I am.

Not all handicaps are visible. In my case, I have an incurable disease, and I fatigue very easily. I also have an awful time with balance. Once I am in a store, I grab a cart, no matter how much I am purchasing. Packing my vehicle after shopping may take a few minutes longer.

There are definitely those who take advantage, no argument about it. But unless you know the whole story about anyone's health, maybe you should just be grateful that you have the ability to park in the "less painted spots" and can walk around the stores, unassisted, for as long as you like.
