Does anyone really take a look at his or her tax bill that comes in time for the holiday season? The statement has three sneaky taxes on the bill.

One is a "NY State Real Prop Tax Law," totaling nearly $213 on my bill. For all who are as ignorant as I was, here is the explanation: It is a tax that has to be paid by us for all the grievances that have been made in Suffolk County.

Then there is the out-of-county tuition -- another mystery tax ["Tuition tab OKd, under protest," News, Nov. 29]. But the best one is the Metropolitan Transportation Authority tax. I don't even ride the trains. Why do I, as a pensioner, have to pay all these ridiculous taxes?

About $260 was added to my tax bill. "Scrooge" is the word I am thinking when I read this bill.
