Regarding the letter "Conservative views and equal time" [Sept. 11], Sen. John Kerry's (D-Mass.) call for the media to deny the tea party "equal time" is not based on "deep political partisanship" but on the realities of Massachusetts politics as well as the political makeup of other states.

A significant portion of voters in Massachusetts are Democrats. Their elected representatives reflect the progressive views of their constituents. If one is frustrated that Massachusetts politicians are not giving tea partyers equal time, that same person must also be upset that progressive voices are not given equal time in Oklahoma.
