LETTER: The nation's real heroes

I was watching a TV interview with Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta, describing the actions that earned him the Medal of Honor, and was struck by how humble he was in talking about his heroism. He called himself mediocre and average, and said that his fellow soldiers were just as brave.

Then I saw a commercial for the NFL, and a football player spiked a ball and acted like he had just saved the world.

It struck me that the men who deserve to be treated like heroes never ask for it, while those who act like they deserve the hero treatment, rarely do deserve it.

The real heroes aren't the men throwing balls for millions of dollars.
