Newsday's article "Vitamin pills lose some of their magic" [Editorial, Oct. 20] is correct in one way only. Vitamins are not "magic." They are essential. Our bodies require vitamins and minerals daily, not only to sustain our lives but to achieve a full, active lifestyle. Our bodies do not manufacture these daily requirements by themselves. That is a fact.

It is the quality of the vitamin or supplement that is vital to achieving a healthy harmonious life. Only about 20 percent of Americans eat correctly every day. In the past two months, can you name one week that every item you ate or drank was nutritionally fit and properly balanced?
