LETTERS: 'Complaining' millionaires, Conroy verdict and more

We could all wish for such problems

Give me a break! The $66 million winners have "problems"? They had to "escape" to Hawaii to avoid reporters? They originally complained because the lottery office didn't open on weekends so they could claim their prize. People are losing their jobs and homes, struggling with debt and wondering how to survive ... and we are reading about these complaining millionaires? They have $66 million and they're fighting Suffolk County over $1 million!

Editorial's message: Some lawbreaking OK

Regarding the editorial "After the Conroy verdict" [April 20], I agree that this type of action is not right and cannot be tolerated. But, at the risk of being called a bigot, I find your message to be more about the right for anybody to enter this country illegally. It seems that you accept lawlessness when you want to, and from whom you want to.

I understand your request for tolerance and agree that no one has the right to take the law into his or her own hands, or to do harm to any other person. But, to not speak out about the illegal immigration problem we have is not right either.

Protect piping plovers to protect ourselves

In answer to a recent letter writer , protecting the piping plover is important because if the small animals of our planet are not protected, how long will it take for larger animals, including mankind, to be affected?

It won't be long until our children are looking at numerous animal species only in a textbook because they're extinct. Obviously, some people consider their convenience a higher priority than protecting the plover. But in protecting the birds, we also protect the beach grasses in which they make their nests. These grasses naturally enhance the ability of our beaches to hold onto sand during storms, thereby preventing erosion.

A round of applause for carry-on bag fees

Am I the only one who would love to see this fee in place ? It completely annoys me to have to wait until every passenger gets their belongings into or out of the overhead compartments.

Some flights leave as much as 20 extra minutes late because late-to-arrive passengers need to find room for their bags all the way in the back, and then we have to wait until they get their things so the rest of us can get off the plane. Stop being so cheap and check your bag.
