Letters: How to create jobs in U.S.
If the president wants to get 1 million construction workers back to work, as he has said in urging Congress to pass his transportation bill, he should consider the following ["A good deal, if not a new deal," Editorial, Sept. 14].
Find a way via canals, viaducts or tunnels to move the excess water from the Midwest to the drought-stricken parts of the country. We watched as record snowmelt inundated the Rocky Mountain states and how floodgates were opened to ease the Mississippi flow, flooding vast acres of valuable farmland. We could even find a way to divert the chronic flooding in New Jersey.
Projects like this would bring relief to America and produce construction work for years to come. I am sure that even the red states would approve.

Our country should think about national health care for the future. More people would be employed if we had national health care. Small businesses cannot afford to offer health insurance, and policyholders cannot afford the increasing price of their health care.
It is time for our government officials to take note of this and go ahead with national health care for all.
