LI ceremony to be held for new stamps

Four U.S. Postal Service Forever Stamps honoring the U.S. Merchant Marines will go on sale Thursday, when a dedication ceremony is planned in Kings Point.

The latest series of stamps depicts four types of vessels — Liberty, clipper and container ships and auxiliary steamships.

The dedication ceremony, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, at 300 Steamboat Rd. in Kings Point.

David T. Matsuda, administrator of the U.S. Maritime Administration, will attend the ceremony along with several academy officials and the stamp’s artist.
