Just in time for summer, Long Island vodka maven Martin Silver has come out with a colorful array of beverages some may find tasteful; others we'll check with later.
Silver, president of Syosset-based Star Distributors, which dispenses the Georgi vodka brand, said his company has made coconut, candy-cane, bubblegum, espresso and whipped-cream flavored vodkas. The bubblegum vodka, Silver said, "tastes just like bubblegum."
The same for the other flavors, he said. "We go out and measure public tastes," Silver said. Patrons are asked to sample a flavor. If they like it in great enough numbers, Star will offer it, Silver said.
"We have a lot of experience," Silver said. "We sit down and discuss these things. It takes time" to come up with the products. "We work on these flavors."
Silver likes being different. Angered during the 2008 baseball season over the Mets' past-midnight firing of manager Willie Randolph, Silver mailed a bunch of chickens to the team's owners, the Wilpons.
