Copiague/Shots fired; 2 people hurt

Police are searching for the person -- or persons -- who fired multiple shots into a home in Copiague early yesterday, wounding two people.

The shootings occurred on Galvani Street and were reported at 3:25 a.m., Suffolk County police said.

Police described the victims only as a male and a female and said both were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with nonlife-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made.

Crime Scene Unit detectives remained on the scene at daybreak yesterday, investigating the shooting. Police said K-9 units also were searching the area. An aviation unit also was requested to join the search, but was unable to participate because of bad weather, police said.

Holbrook/2 hurt in alleged DWI crash

An East Setauket driver and her passenger were seriously injured yesterday morning when their car was struck by a drunken driver in Holbrook, Suffolk County police said.

Police said James O'Donnell, 47, of 4 Kerry Ct., Centereach, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was held for arraignment yesterday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said O'Donnell was driving his 1995 Mercury Marquis north on Holbrook Road when he crashed into a 2005 Lincoln driven by Kristen Iacono, 26, westbound on the north service road of the Long Island Expressway. The crash occurred at 12:08 a.m.

Iacono and passenger Joseph Kemp, 30, of Holbrook, were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Ronkonkoma Rescue.

Police said Iacono was admitted with serious injuries, and Kemp was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Their conditions were not immediately known.

DIX HILLS/Dividers dumped on LIE

A tractor trailer carrying concrete dividers on the Long Island Expressway blew a tire yesterday, and the momentum of falling concrete caused the truck to hit an HOV barrier and the load to dump onto the road, sheriffs said.

The crash happened shortly after noon, as the truck, traveling westbound near Exit 52, Commack Road, hit the center barrier, according to a spokeswoman with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office and the state Department of Transportation website, informny.com.

The spokeswoman said there were no injuries, but several of the concrete dividers on the truck had landed in traffic lanes as a result of the crash.

Personnel removed the dividers, which caused some of the expressway lanes to be closed for about 2 1/2 hours.
