ELMONT/Man accused of robbing 2 neighboring businesses

Nassau police have arrested a Queens man in connection with the November armed robbery of a Nathan's restaurant and a Dunkin' Donuts shop next door in Elmont and a holdup of the same doughnut shop two weeks later.

Gregory Kennedy, 31, of 130-11 226th St. in Laurelton, Queens, was charged with three counts of first-degree robbery, police said. Kennedy, who had been in the custody of the NYPD, was arrested Wednesday after being transferred to the Nassau County jail in East Meadow, police said. It was not immediately clear why the NYPD had arrested Kennedy.

Police said Kennedy entered the Dunkin' Donuts on Linden Boulevard in Elmont at about 6:15 p.m. last Nov. 23, and, armed with a handgun, robbed the store of cash. Police said he then went next door to the Nathan's, flashed the gun and robbed that eatery, as well.

Police said that just before 4 p.m. Dec. 6, Kennedy returned to the same Dunkin' Donuts, which he robbed again at gunpoint. He got more cash and fled, police said.

Police did not say how Kennedy was linked to the robberies.

He was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead and ordered held on $250,000 cash bail.

EAST ISLIP/Police investigate hit-run that left woman injured

An East Islip woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center late Wednesday night after she was struck on a street by a hit-and-run driver, police said.

The accident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Connetquot Avenue in East Islip, Suffolk County police said. Detectives believe the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run sustained passenger-side damage -- and police said they are hopeful it will be found.

The victim, identified by police as Danielle Mazzarone, 28, suffered leg injuries and was listed in stable condition Thursday, police said. Police said Mazzarone had been helping a friend shift cars between a driveway and the street and was exiting a vehicle she had just parked when struck.

Friends who heard the crash rushed out to the street and found Mazzarone on the ground, police said. Police would not say if they had a witness' description of the vehicle that struck Mazzarone.

Police said that the vehicle that fled also struck the car Mazzarone had exited and investigators are sifting through evidence from the scene.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
