With Thanksgiving fast approaching, local food banks are reaching to the public for donations.

The Interfaith Nutrition Network in Hempstead, which over the years has served about 9 million meals to needy Long Islanders, says any donation of food or time is appreciated.

Donations have taken a hit this holiday season amid the credit crisis that's ravaged the economy.
