TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT

NY 25A. Construction on NY 25A has closed the right westbound and eastbound lanes between Glen Cove Road and Route 101.

ROUTE 24. Paving operations are taking place on Route 24 westbound after Sunrise Highway/Route 27 and at CR-63.

PATCHOGUE-HOLBROOK ROAD. Construction work is taking place on both the northbound and southbound sides at the Long Island Expressway.

ROUTE 347. There is construction work on the eastbound side between Route 111 and Mount Pleasant Road.

The LIRR is operating on time or close to schedule.

WEATHER

Monday will be partly cloudy with a high of 59 degrees and a low of 45.

TODAY IN NY HISTORY

On this day in 1980, CBS newscaster Dan Rather said he had been kidnapped by a cabdriver, but it turned out that he had refused to pay his $12.55 fare. CBS had to step up and foot the bill.

On this date in 1988, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced it planned to replace tokens with credit card-like passes.

And in national events, "Sesame Street" made its debut on PBS TV on this date 45 years ago.
