TOWN FOCUS IN BABYLON
Community journalist Amy Onorato will be spending this week in Babylon as part of Newsday's "Town Focus" series. On Monday, she'll be getting a tour of the Town of Babylon History Museum in Babylon Village and checking out some of the unique shops in the village's downtown area. TODAY IN NY HISTORY
1963 -- A local living legend made history on this day 51 years ago. On Oct. 20, 1963, NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown, a 1953 Manhasset High School graduate, set the NFL single-season rushing record with 1,863 yards while playing for the Cleveland Browns.
1976 -- It was also on this date in 1976 that another Long Island sports legend, NBA Hall of Famer Julius "Dr J." Erving, a Roosevelt native, went to the Philadelphia 76ers, as the cash-strapped NY Nets negotiated the forfeiture of Erving’s rights to the 76ers for $3 million.
1988 -- And in New York City, a man wired with explosives triggered a blast inside the 125 Street subway station in Harlem, killing himself, on this date, 26 years ago.
