TODAY IN HISTORY

"Remember, remember the 5th of November..." Today is Guy Fawkes Day, a British holiday commemorating the failure of a famous assassination plot against King James I in 1605. Fawkes was arrested while guarding explosives that were planted underneath the House of Lords, foiling the plot to destroy the building. Citizens celebrated the failed attempt by lighting bonfires around London -- a tradition that is still practiced today.

Also, Tuesday's Election Day winners share victory with some other notable politicians who were elected into office on Nov. 5:

1912: Woodrow Wilson was elected 28th president of the United States.

1940: Franklin Delano Roosevelt secured his third term as president.

1968: Richard Nixon was elected 37th president of the United States.
