Harold Jurist of Manhasset was named president of the board of directors at AHRC Nassau, a non-profit organization serving the needs of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is a partner at Goodman, Jurist & Pandolfo, a Garden City law firm.
Robert W. Schwarz has been appointed chairman of the board of directors at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. The East Patchogue resident is a partner at the Patchogue accounting firm of Rizzi, Schwarz and Taraskas.
United Way of Long Island named six new members to its board of directors: Donald P. Astrab is president of Nassau Community College and lives in Garden City. George Bloom of South Setauket is president of Communication Workers of America Local 1104. Mark J. Censoprano is chief marketing officer for Sbarro and lives in Florida. Shaun L. McKay of Manorville is president of Suffolk County Community College. Kevin M. Rooney is chief executive of Oil Heat Institute of Long Island and lives in Nesconset. Donald A. Schatz is president, chief executive and principal of Dale Carnegie Training of Long Island and a Syosset resident.
Larry Slatky was appointed to the board of directors at the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island. The Cold Spring Harbor resident is executive vice president of operations at NuHealth, Nassau Health Care Corporation in East Meadow.
The Long Island Real Estate Group, a networking organization, announced three new board members: Richard V. Guardino Jr. is vice president for development at Hofstra University and lives in Point Lookout. Don Eversoll, founder and partner of the Timber Ridge Organization, lives in Cold Spring Harbor and Santa Barbara, Calif. Joseph Willen founder, president and chief executive of Advantage Group of Companies in Huntington, lives in Northport.
Denise Avolese, office manager and executive assistant at the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council in Hauppauge, was named president of the board of the Association for Health Care Administrative Professionals. She lives in Glen Head.
Fran Karliner was named president of the Long Island chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is director of development for the Long Island Crisis Center in Bellmore and lives in Old Bethpage.
Nicholas Gigante of Massapequa was named president of the New York State Association of Realtors. He is the president and broker/owner of RE/MAX Shores in Massapequa and Oceanside.
EMPLOYMENT
John H. Murer has been named business development manager at Prestige Employee Administrators in Melville. The Huntington resident was a co-founder of AVP Mortgage Solutions in Westbury.
FINANCE
Mark Fogel has joined Marcum, a Melville accounting firm, as chief human resources officer. He was vice president of human resources and administration at Leviton Manufacturing in Melville and is a Jericho resident.
Gianni Ottaviano was promoted to senior vice president of structured finance at Arbor Realty Trust in Uniondale. He was vice president of structured finance and lives in Massapequa.
GOVERNMENT
Laurie Donnelly has been appointed a consultant on horticulture and gardening for the Village of Port Jefferson. The certified master gardener is a Miller Place resident.
HEALTH CARE
Gary E. Bie was named chief financial officer at Stony Brook University Medical Center. The Commack resident was most recently executive vice president for finance at Nassau Health Care Corp. in East Meadow.
INSURANCE
Kevin O'Brien of East Northport has been named president and chief executive of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association in Manhattan. He was previously sales manager at Maran Corporate Risk Associates in Southampton.
LAW
Martin S. Glass has joined Campolo, Middleton & McCormick in Bohemia in an of-counsel position. The Port Jefferson Station resident was a senior associate at Davidow, Davidow, Siegel and Stern in Islandia.
Richard A. Weinblatt has joined Uniondale-based Ruskin Moscou Faltischek's trusts and estates department as counsel. The Nesconset resident will continue as a partner at Haley Weinblatt & Calcagni in Islandia in addition to his new position.
Ron Lebow has been promoted from associate to partner at Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Greenberg, Formato & Einiger in Lake Success. He is a Manhattan resident.
Rivkin Radler in Uniondale announced four new partner promotions: Todd Belous is a member of the firm's professional liability practice group and lives in Dix Hills. George Choriatis of Seaford is a member of the corporate and commercial and health services practice groups. Joanne Engeldrum is a member of the insurance coverage and litigation practice groups and lives in Oakdale. Keith Grover of Melville is a member of the professional liability, and litigation and appeals practice groups.

Matthew Campo was promoted to executive director at The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island in New Hyde Park. The Wantagh resident was director of development and communications since May 2009.

Daniel Oliver has been promoted from director to managing director at the Melville office of Newmark Knight Frankand lives in Syosset.
RELIGION
Gretta Johnson-Sally has been hired at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Stony Brook as director of religious education. The Commack resident was a mental health counselor at the Education & Assistance Corps Suffolk Learning Center in Bay Shore.
