A little bit of history was made at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday on Long Island: Two of the region's largest and oldest technology organizations -- the Long Island Forum for Technology and the Long Island Software and Technology Network -- signed an agreement. They will team up in seeking government and other work for their members, primarily for the time being in cyber security.
LIFT president Frank Otto and LISTnet chairman Peter Goldsmith signed the agreement that will potentially link more than 1,000 Long Island companies -- about 800 in LISTnet and 250 in LIFT.
The organizations tried to form ties in the early 2000s, but the efforts never worked out, Otto and Goldsmith said.
"There's a bunch of opportunities for us," Otto said.
Goldsmith said a formal agreement was needed. "You have to do it for the members to see," he said. "They really need to know it's not just all talk."
LIFT and LISTnet plan a meeting in June with many of their member companies present to discuss joint projects.
