LIA getting media bids to cover Palin
Media from Japan and Sweden have put in bids to be admitted. So have C-SPAN, the New York City and Washington press corps, to say nothing of Long Island print, broadcast and Web journalists.
What's all the excitement about? The visit to Long Island on Thursday by former Alaska governor and one-time GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who will sit for a Q&A hosted by the Long Island Association at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
A full house of about 1,000 paid attendees is expected, said LIA chief Kevin Law. The issue to be resolved, he said, is media coverage.
"I can't have 500 cameras" in the room, he said, because they would block the view of paying spectators. Options are being discussed, with a decision to come Monday.
Palin will be interviewed by Law at what is Melville-based LIA's annual meeting. Traditionally, the media have not been allowed to cover the event, whose guests have included former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. and George W. Bush.
