The Libertarian Party of New York will hold its annual state convention April 30 at Lily Flanagan’s Pub in Babylon, the party’s chairman announced Monday.

Mark Axinn said the party, which in last year’s gubernatorial election fell about 2,000 votes short of achieving automatic ballot access, will focus on organizing additional local chapters and electing its state committee.

The party’s scheduled speakers include Nassau Interim Finance Authority director George Marlin and Warren Redlich, a town board member in upstate Guilderland who was the party’s 2010 nominee for governor.

The one-day convention will begin at 10 a.m. at the pub, which is adjacent to the Babylon Long Island Rail Road station, and continue through the afternoon, Axinn said.

About 75 people attended the 2010 party convention in Albany that nominated a slate for statewide elections, Axinn said, and he expects between 40 and 50 people at this year’s event.

“I look forward to welcoming fellow liberty-loving New Yorkers as we move to improve upon our fine successes last year and position the Libertarian Party for even greater returns in the next election cycle,” Axinn said.
