Library budget vote today for Smithtown
Smithtown residents will go to the polls Tuesday to vote on a 2012 library budget and choose two trustees.
Polls are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Commack and Nesconset branches, and the Kings Park Fire Department.
The Smithtown Special Library District is proposing a $12.65-million budget, an increase of 1.2 percent over this year’s $12.5-million budget. If approved, taxes on the average home assessed at $6,000 would go up 2.2 percent, to $291.25.
Three candidates are running for two open seats on the library district’s board of trustees. The top two vote-getters will win seats on the board.
Incumbent Anthony J. Monteleone of Nesconset, a retired schoolteacher and guidance counselor, is running for re-election.
Also running are Otis M. Thornhill of Commack, a retired telecommunications executive and current president of Friends of the Library, and Rosalind F. Palazzolo of St. James, a community activist and retired accountant and auditor.
