LIE reopened after truck accident cleared

All lanes of the Long Island Expressway were reopened about 1:15 p.m. Saturday after a truck stuck underneath a bridge near Exit 63 caused a four-hour closure and traffic delays on the highway.  

Police said the truck driver was issued two tickets for malfunctioning mechanisms on the vehicle; unrelated to the incident.

There was 150 feet of debris cleaned up on the scene.

Department of Transportation officials have determined the bridge did not sustain structural damage. Most of the damage was to the roof of the tractor trailer, Suffolk County police said.

The accident happened in Patchogue at Exit 63, N. Ocean Avenue, after a tractor-trailer became stuck under a bridge, Suffolk police said.

There were no reported injuries and crews were on the scene to clean up debris and inspect the bridge. The incident occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday.
