A six-vehicle pile up closed all eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway near Exit 49S in Melville for about an hour Wednesday evening during rush hour.

As of 8:30 p.m., all lanes had reopened.

A Suffolk County police spokeswoman said police received an initial report about the accident at about 6:21 p.m.

A Ford van rear-ended a Jeep, causing the six-vehicle crash, police said. Both the van and the Jeep then burst into flames.

A police spokesman said one person was treated for neck pain, but no further injuries were reported.
