For the second time in as many games, Bay Shore pitcher Liz Weber was deprived of the chance to complete a perfect game. This time, the Whitman bats had nothing to do with it.

With No. 1 Bay Shore leading 4-0 with two outs in the top of the fourth, Game 2 of the Suffolk Class AA finals was suspended because of lightning and inclement weather.

The game will pick up where it left off, with Liz Weber at second base and a 2-2 count on Kelsey Fischer, today at 4 p.m. at Whitman. The No. 6 Wildcats (17-5) lead the best-of-three series 1-0.

Bay Shore (22-1) struck for two runs each in the second and third innings against Christine Lucido, courtesy of RBI hits from Weber, Cat Franzone and Nicole Marzillo, who twice doubled down the leftfield line to drive in a run. After being limited to just six baserunners in all of Game 1, nine Marauders reached base in the first four innings on Tuesday.

Weber retired the first nine batters of the game, striking out four and not allowing the ball to leave the infield.

"We're a very resilient team, and I was confident my kids would respond," Bay Shore coach Jim McGowan said. "Weber had her changeup working and once she gets that down, she's almost unhittable."
