Bethpage Federal Credit Union executive Linda Armyn has been elected board president at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

Armyn, the credit union's senior vice president of corporate strategy, has served since 2004 on the board of the Garden City museum. Before this week’s election she had been secretary.

“The Cradle of Aviation Museum is a Long Island treasure that continues to inspire our youth like none other,” Armyn said in a statement. “The launch of the new Digital Planetarium, along with the museum’s recent selection as one of the lead organizations to launch the new Long Island STEM Hub offer us exciting new platforms from which to continue to help improve college and career readiness for our youth. This is an exciting time for the museum, and I am excited to get started in my new role.”

She noted that the Cradle of Aviation is a leading regional hub for world-class education in STEM -- science, technology, engineering and mathematics -- through its Magnet Academy serving more than 200 students annually.

The Digital Planetarium will provide students with realistic, close-up views of Earth, star fields and planets, and will have access to data from NASA and the European Space Agency and a database of more than 2 billion stars developed by the Museum of Natural History.

Armyn also is co-chairwoman of the Leadership Council for the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island, vice chairwoman of YMCA Long Island and board vice president at the Child Care Council of Suffolk. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Armyn resides in Melville with her husband and their two sons.
