Lindenhurst hearing on carting clippings

The Village of Lindenhurst is holding a public hearing on a proposed law that would require landscapers working in the village to dispose of any grass clippings, branches or other material rather than leaving them on the curb or in the street.

Landscapers would be required to take the material to a disposal facility outside the village. The proposed law states that “under no conditions shall any grass clippings, branches or any other landscaping material be disposed within the Village of Lindenhurst without the permission of the Village Board of Trustees.”

Currently, the village removes such material weekly. Administrator Clerk-Treasurer Shawn Cullinane said the proposed law comes with the aim of having landscapers be more environmentally responsible as well as “keeping the community cleaner and more efficient.”

A public hearing on the proposed law will be held Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.
