A trustee on the Lindenhurst Memorial Library board has issued his resignation.

Shawn Cullinane, above, administrator clerk-treasurer for the Village of Lindenhurst, offered his resignation this week, he said. Cullinane was in the middle of his third five-year term on the board, having first been elected in 1999. He also is president of the board of the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts and is on the board of governors of the New York Cooperative Liquid Assets Securities System.

Cullinane said he was resigning because of a lack of time to devote to the library board.

“The library board needs commitment, and I didn’t want to get into a position where I’m missing meetings,” he said.

Library director Peter Ward could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Cullinane said that during his time on the board, whenever there has been a vacancy, the board has not appointed a member until the next election, which he said would be April 2014.
