Lindenhurst marina access limited until it's fixed
Access to Lindenhurst’s village marina, parts of which were badly damaged by Tropical Storm Irene, is restricted until repairs can be made, trustees announced at last Tuesday’s village board meeting.
Boaters who tie up there will have access, said village clerk Shawn Cullinane, but officials are asking others to stay out.
“On the exterior portion facing the bay, the boardwalk is pretty much ripped up,” he said. “There are holes in the parking lot.”
Cullinane said he didn’t know when the marina would reopen. An engineer was scheduled to survey the damage Thursday; officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency postponed a scheduled visit earlier in the week.
Damage could top $500,000, Cullinane said.
A years-long reconstruction of the marina was a quarter finished when Irene hit, he said. “The rebuilt portion weathered it well,” he said. “The older marina portion got hit hard.”
