Lindenhurst street renamed for 9/11 victim

A section of a Lindenhurst street will bear the name of a resident who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The Babylon Town Board Tuesday approved the honorary designation for a section of Deauville Parkway as Laurence Nedell Way. Nedell, 52, was working as an insurance underwriter at Aon Corp. in the south tower of the World Trade Center and, according to his family, was last seen in a stairway of the building, helping an elderly colleague who had poor vision.
Nedell’s daughter, Jennie Nedell of Lindenhurst, has organized a kickboxing event, “Rumble on the Ramp: For Our Fallen Angels,” to be held at Long Island MacArthur Airport on Sept. 10 to benefit Babylon’s Hometown Memorial at Cedar Beach.
The section of Deauville Parkway that will be renamed is where Nedell lived, between Maple and Elm avenues. Town spokesman Tim Ruggeri said a private ceremony for the designation is being planned.
