The Village of Lindenhurst has reached a new contract agreement with one of its largest employee unions.

Little changes in the new contract with Local 1000 of AFL/CIO unit 8761, said Village Mayor Thomas Brennan, who called the agreement fair. He said workers will receive 2.5 percent raises per year until the contract ends in February 2013.

Also, there is a clause allowing the village to use up to four workers on Saturdays. They will be asked to perform tasks such as reconditioning baseball fields or manning the Department of Public Works yard to allow residents to bring in large items for recycling.

Union president Jeff Fehr also called the agreement fair and said union members approved the agreement, 45 to 9.

In other village news, a public hearing on the 2012-2013 budget will be Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Although the village passed a new law allowing it to exceed the state mandated 2 percent property tax cap, Brennan said the new budget does not exceed the cap.
